January 8, 2007 – Media Center
Opening
The meeting began at 6:05pm.
Family Emergency Fund Update
Vicki asked to have the Outreach line item in
the budget amended. Money collected for these needs as
they arise will be paid out entirely, resulting in a
wash. The recent family emergency resulted in $520 in
donations school wide. All of this money was paid out
for various items (Wal-mart gift cards, gift certificates
for local eateries, etc.). The amendment was approved.
Year End Feedback
Mr. Rose mentioned that parents will receive
information by late January allowing them to make their
Track preferences. Every grade level will have four
tracks. Final Track assignments will be known by late
April. Jana mentioned that class size is a concern
among some parents. A larger class size (28-30) is not
unheard of in a year round scenario. We currently have
approximately 470 students. Next year, we expect to
have 560 students. Although this is an increase by 90
students, 50 less students will be on campus at one time
with the year round schedule. At any given time, 420
students are expected to be in school.
Track Out Information
Vicki mentioned that we would like to offer
parents some information on Track Out options. Laura H.
and Rose will compile some information on local Track
Out Program to distribute to our parents. Impact Gym in
Cary is hosting a Track Out Fair on Jan. 20th.
Year Round workshops will also be available for parents
to learn more about creating a smooth transition.
Student Awards Ceremonies
The ceremonies will be held February 16th. K-2
will be 9:45 am and 3-5 will be at 10:30am.
Ident-A-Kid
Ident-A-Kid will be in house next week to offer
interested parents identification cards for their
children.
January Family Night
On January 11, the Vance Family Night will be
held at Chick-Fil-A. We will have the classes compete
to encourage as many attendees as possible. Volunteers
are needed to track the amount of people and distribute
additional tickets needed for Vance to obtain a portion
of the proceeds.
Staff Appreciation Breakfast
Our second staff appreciation breakfast is
scheduled for next Wednesday. Second and third grade
parents will be asked to donate items.
Read-A-Thon
This event will be held Jan 29th
through February 9th. The theme is ‘Discover
New Worlds’. Prizes will be awarded to the top three
fund raisers and for the most reading done at each grade
level. We will be having a bookmark design contest. A
winner will be selected from each grade level. The
winning bookmark will be copied and distributed to every
student in the corresponding grade level. Mr. Rose has
agreed to dye his hair blue for a day, if the financial
goals or the participation goals are met. It is hoped
that the Read-A-Thon will raise $13,000.
Community Exchange Idea
Vicki discussed the idea of having a community exchange
type of event. Allowing families to exchange gently
used clothes and toys. This could be held on a Friday
night and Saturday morning in February perhaps.
Brochure Rack
Ms. Mize has plenty of information to supply the
parent information brochure rack in the front lobby.
Instead of having a second rack, information will be
continually restocked to allow parents to help
themselves to any items of interest.
Approval of Previous Meeting
Minutes
A change will be made in the Tech Run section of
the minutes to reflect “The children raised (to
replace “The children earned”). Otherwise, the minutes
from our December meeting were approved. A motion was
made and seconded; the group was all in favor.
Closing
