Opening

The meeting opened at 6:40 pm.

Vance PTA

Vicki Nizen, PTA President noted the motto for the PTA this year, “Get Fit With the PTA”.  Vicki noted that there is a Walking Club available to parents in the AM on the Tracks.  Any information to parents from the PTA will be on orange paper this year and signed off by Mr. Rose and Vicki Nizen.

Volunteer Sign Up

Classroom Volunteer Sign up is in each child’s classroom – they will note a contact person to be in contact with the PTA.  Just a reminder to parents each year you must RE-ACTIVATE your volunteer status.  The application is online in the Library.  See Ms. Perry for specific directions.

Catalog Sales Kickoff

Tracks 1 and 2 – Starts 7-31-07 and for Tracks 3 and 4 starts 8-21-07.  The catalog purchases will be delivered directly to each child’s home.

Fall Family Picnic

Saturday, September 8^th, 11 AM to 1:30 PM at the track at Vance Elementary.  Each grade will have a booth with items/games/crafts for sale.  All monies raised for each grade will be given DIRECTLY to each grade for field trips and supplies for that particular grade.

Magnets for Sale

There are magnets for sale, which denote the year round schedule as well as all of the PTA events on one convenient magnet.  Cost $3.00 each.

PTA Budget 2007-08

This budget has been approved and to print out a paper copy go to www.vancepta.org  One of the goals of this year’s PTA is to begin to save money for a playground for the upper grades.  The estimated cost is $10,000.  Vance has applied for grants as well (which will defer the cost to the PTA).  The PTA anticipates this being a 2 year plan ($5,000 for each year).

Accelerated Reader

This is the reading program run by the school where students read books at their reading level (as per their teacher) and take tests on those books.  Once they achieve a certain number of points they get their picture taken and a certificate is put up in the cafeteria.  There are year end awards for this program sponsored by the PTA.

Harris Teeter

Another way for the PTA to raise money is to link your Harris Teeter grocery card with Vance PTA’s number. You can go to www.vancepta.org for more information.  Please Note:  You must re-link each school year.  The number is 6218 for Vance Elementary School
